Bimini

Bimini was one of the first boats on the MHYC register in 1946/47. She was built to Julnar' design, but was a different length.

She was built by Jim Perry for Rolf Marks of Percy Marks Jewellery located at Castlereagh Street, Sydney since 1899.

The editor of the Wooden Boat Association, Christopher Goddard owned her for about 30 years and spent a lot of time restoring her.

She is currently owned by David Dizgalvis and lives in Rockhampton, Queensland.

Bimini is the name of a fabulous Island of the Bahamas lying far out in the ocean.

According to legends of the natives there was on this island a marvellous fountain, the water of which had the property of restoring youth and vigor.

Bimini Today

Bimini is currently owned by David Dizgalvis from the Fitzroy Motorboat Club in Rockhampton. David bought it from Christopher Goddard and sailed her to Rockhampton in Queensland.

David says she is a beautiful boat that glides through the water, but unfortunately, he cannot spend the time on the maintenance she requires. He is looking at selling it.

Stories

From Johanna Perry

Family narrative told by Jo Perry, granddaughter of Jim and May Perry, daughter of Alan Perry

Johanna is the great granddaughter of Cecil Sidney Perry (Sid Perry) and her current project is to record the importance of the Perry Houseboat Fisher Bay.

She notes: "The Perry and Marks family were very close. The son of Jim Perry (Alan Kenneth Perry) was named after Kenneth Marks. The grandson of Jim Perry (Nathan Rolfe Perry) was named after family friend Rudolf (Uncle Rolfe) Marks.

The granddaughter Johanna May Perry inherited a number of jewellery items manufactured by the Marks family for the Perry's.  All items are certified. Birth certificates of both Nathan and Johanna Perry reflect the middle names of "Rolfe' (Rolf Marks) and 'May' (wife of Jim Perry).

The Marks family were also fortunate enough to have a houseboat at the Spit where the families met and were close. Mrs. Jess Marks was the wife of "Uncle 'Rolfe" Rudolf Marks, who was a close friend of May Perry".

Hand crafted gemstones given to Jim Perry at the time of the Bimini build from Rolfe Marks. These were given to the Perry family in exchange for some of Jim's labour.
